Becoming Human – an excursion through ‘nature’ and ‘wilderness’ – A few ideas about ‘Getting back to the Garden’, knowing it for the first time, and realising what we might become. Presented by Cliff Jordan, former Director, Braziers Park School of Integrative Social Research.

A mainly practical day where you will learn the techniques of harvesting coppice to prepare stakes and binders for hedge laying (see course below).Tuition will include: sharpening and safe use of tools: the benefits of coppicing and learning about species suitable for coppicing. Braziers is situated on the edge of the Chilterns where there is an ancient coppicing tradition and we will take a short walk to visit the traditionally managed woods.
Cost £35.00 per day – includes refreshments and wholesome organic lunch.

A full day of practical hedgelaying, learning the tools and techniques for different species to create and maintain traditional stock-proof hedging. The course builds on the learning from the coppicing days but these are not essential. Tuition will include sharpening and safe use of tools. You will learn the basic skills in one day but may like to attend both for greater experience and completion of the hedging.
