School of Magic Online
On Zoom – Free (Donations Welcome)
We invite you to experience an interactive online event of magical studies! Crystal Grids, Altar Making, Magical Plants and More!. Click Here for More Info.
Connection is what we need during these difficult times. Four magical facilitators are coming together to help you to develop and experience powerful connections in our first-ever School of Magic Online!
Natalie from Wild & Home will guide you through an experience in how to connect to an object and then imbue it with power. Using a gathered object from nature or one that already contains meaning to you, discover what inner messages it holds and then learn how to charge it with energy so it can be used for ritual or ceremonial purpose. This is a shamanic way of developing deeper practices to be in connection.
Jemma from Violet Skies Healing will connect you to a beautiful Rose Quartz crystal grid, and then guide you on a journey to drop into the heart space and immerse ourselves with the loving, gentle energy of Rose Quartz Crystal. Join Jemma to bring through any messages and healing that this crystal has for you during this time.
(You don’t need a crystal to participate. However, if you would like to bring a crystal with you to the zoom call then you are invited to do so.)
Amanda from Goddess Liberation will be offering a simple Altar making practice that you can do yourself at home. The intention of this practice is to create inner harmony and balance through the power of positive intention and creativity, to allow you to feel more connected to both the micro (inner world) and macro (outer world) in a more centred and grounded way.
Amanda sees altar making as an art form and a meditation in itself. This offering will include a simple altar making demonstration using the 4 elements and a short guided visualization to help connect you to your inner peace and wellness.
You are welcome to gather items prior to the event if you’d like to make your own Altar during the call. Collect items that for you represent the 4 elements Air, Fire, Water and Earth and any other items that are special to you.”
With Hedge Herbs’ herbalist and regular Braziers tutor Rasheeqa, find your way to touch into the wonder and energy of unfurling the rising and high light of this time. Indigenous cultures of this land viewed the Maytime as that of ‘bright fire’, the gathering of power and resilience after the cold and dark of winter. The plants express this energy as they grow and spread, offering us the delight of senses and an abundance of food and medicine. Rasheeqa will be present with a seasonal plant of the moment, sharing knowledge about finding connection with plant allies and how our ancient allyship with these beings can support us at this time. July 2020
Brave New World – Glaister Lecture 2020
Free on Zoom Saturday 11:00 – 13:00 (BST)
This year’s lecture will be given by Professor Nicole B Pohl, MA; PhD, Professor in Early Modern Literature and Critical Theory. Click here for more info.
Professor Pohl will reflect on the challenges and usefulness of utopian thinking in the Anthropocene, and more recently, the COVID-19 global crisis. In an article in the New Statesman, David Miliband came to the conclusion that post-Covid crisis, the ‘alternative is not utopia. It is common sense as well as common humanity.’ Professor Pohl wants to suggest that common humanity is the essence of utopia and utopianism and to reflect on the kind of utopianism the world needs today. We will face global, indeed dystopian, challenges ranging from the ‘Sixth Extinction’, a new wave of nationalism and anti-democratic policies (under the smokescreen of the pandemic) and a continuation of racial/gender inequalities. She would like to put it to discussion if utopia is a useful way of creating new narratives, narratives as Monbiot suggested, that are created from the bottom up and challenge the narratives of neoliberal capitalism, to reveal them as ideologies. Thus utopia and utopianism are about imagining different worlds, telling different stories to try out – with common sense- a world that works for all humanity.
